Katharine Lee

MA, AMFT

I work with a variety of populations such as adolescents, adults, couples, parents, and families using process therapy, somatic therapy, and a mind-body approach.

Being human is hard and nearly nonsensical. It’s scary, messy, cumbersome, heroic, tragic, exciting, boring, confusing, heart breaking, dangerous, and perhaps at best devastatingly beautiful. It has a huge impact on our hearts and minds without exception. I’ve watched so many, including myself, with the right support, take the inevitable inner turmoil and weave it into inspiring life tapestries. Healing is possible. The origin of “heal” is wholeness- meaning not to cure but to become whole. I’m of the opinion that can happen long before a full cure, remission, or elimination of any symptom or pattern. Approaching healing this way can take pressure off of the usual tension of needing to be experiencing something else before we can feel whole or happy. I help people find the feelings of safety, relief, ease, acceptance, choice, curiosity, validation, and even joyful pleasure alongside the things that seem to exclude those states.

My favorite work personally and professionally is to bring the light of awareness to patterns that are rooted in childhood, adversity, other people’s narratives, and limiting beliefs and to cultivate compassionate witnessing to what is found while giving ample space to grieve the losses, rage the transgressions, and long for the missed care while we gently come to know all of it and ourselves as wholly ok.

Born and raised in the deep south, I am a passionate advocate for embracing our humanity and loving the dark and light dance of existence. With a personal history of immense adversity including complex traumas and subsequent health and mental health challenges, I am compassionately available to hold clients in their vulnerabilities and immense strengths that traverse those waters. I incorporate information from the body, the family system, the internal family system of “parts,” and the triumph and challenge stories of each client into the sessions. I work relationally and with a bold and playful approach that utilizes cognitive challenging and reframing, the space, objects, somatic awareness, mindfulness practices, and sometimes specific structures to assist trauma, communication, conflict, intimacy, anger, anxiety, depression, grief, and confidence.
